Friday: Student-led Chapel Day

Fridays are looked forward to by staff and students alike here at PIBC, but not just because they mark the end of the week! Fridays, the students lead in chapel, all the way from the greeting to the music and the devotional presentation. Today was a great blessing; one of my Public Speaking 120 students presented the devotional. Jayvina used Romans 12 to encourage us to honor God by loving and serving Him AND by loving and serving each other. She did an excellent job sharing printed and personal encouragement!

Below, if I have done it correctly (my technological skills are often dubious at best), you should be able to click on the arrow to view and listen to an eighty second clip of our students singing this morning, October 5th, in chapel. Hopefully, this will give you a bit of the sense of being right here with us!

The students love songs with hand motions and often share songs as a group, often using motions adopted from American Sign Language, and moving side to side. This is a common practice in churches over here, and students here on campus frequently share music with us this way. Called, "Worship Dance," it incorporates a visual interpretation of the lyrics of a song along with the sung lyrics. Think of it as similar to the
hula in Hawaii where the hands tell a story while the person singing along moves gently from side to side.
