From Typhoons to Tsunamis

Last week, it was a typhoon watch - this week, a tsunami watch! We sure live in an exciting corner of the world.
The typhoon slid harmlessly past us . . . and the tsunami watch has been lifted - no waves! But I thought some of you might be interested to see where the epicenter of the (reportedly) 8.1 earthquake was, near Vanuatu. Vanuatu is within the white circle, located about 2300 miles southeast of us. I also am including a photo of Vanuatu. Evidently, they have a lot more to worry about there than earthquakes from the looks of this photo! :-)

Spiritual Emphasis Days are just around the corner - October 15 and 16 of next week. This picture is of me (Melody), Joyce, Melissa, and Jen at a recent fellowship between staff and students on campus. We are all looking forward to spending time with students over two days and one night as we take a bit of a break from academics and focus on God's word and worshiping together. Please pray for us all to, together, draw near to God, learn ways He wants us to grow, and to draw closer together as a Christian community.

Speaking of "community," during Spiritual Emphasis Days, we'll have our first "community group" meeting of the school year. Pacific Islands University has community groups that combine staff, faculty, and students into fellowship groups that meet a couple of times each month throughout the school year. (This photo is of our community group from last year.) We enjoy meeting together to pray, play, fellowship, and feast! This year there are 7 groups with between 4-7 staff/faculty members and 14-17 students. We're really looking forward to our first get-together!

Thanks for checking in with us - now that we are back on island and the semester is off to a good start, check our blog for updates on what's up at PIU and in our lives. We try to update it at least once a week, so keep checking! Have a great fall!
Melody and Tim
