Summer's Ending/Wrapping Things Up

Do you know what this is (to the right)? It is the response report and all of the supporting documentation that I had the blessing of sending off to TRACS (our university's accrediting agency) this past Monday!!

See my smiling face? This is me with the box full of the stuff above, sealed and ready for the post office! One big project completed! We had a lot of folks working together to make this happen, so don't think I did this all alone! I think just about our entire staff was involved! GREAT teamwork and what a relief to be DONE!

Another "ending" event was a relaxing trip to the beach for a barbecue with all the staff and students we could round up that were on island as our classes for summer ended. The night before the barbecue, several girls and our accountant, Celia (and her family) came out to our house to enjoy dinner
and then baking a massive amount of very large cookies for the next night's event. Jayleen helped get all the "stuff" out (in the red shirt to the right) while Teisy, Lynn, Esme, and Lucy mixed up the batter. The girls got the dough on the cooky sheets and I did the in-and-out-of-the-oven work.

I had to take this photo (below) of the 2 boxes of cookies at the beach before they all disappeared! They went VERY fast!!

After the barbecue and some games, we gathered on a grassy area in a large circle for worship time. At first we were all spread out in this large circle, but one of Guam's random-but-predictable rain showers hit and we were soon gathered under a pavilion area to sing, pray, have a devotional, welcome a few new faces and say farewell to some of our summer visitors. It was a great evening!

The last major project that Tim and his work crew have been wrapping up has been to construct an awning all the way around the men's dorm annex (lovingly dubbed the "cannex") to prevent rain from blowing in through windows and doors, to protect the small raised deck entry, and to protect a washer, dryer, and water heater at the back of the building.

As I am writing this today, the guys are finishing the installation of the corrugated tin AND Tim is getting the new vinyl flooring triple-sealed so it's ready to wax! This job is one that should last. Thanks, summer work crew, for ALL your hard work on the campus. You could have been doing a lot of other things, but you gave yourselves to working here at PIU! Your DAILY labor to not only work on the reconstruction of the Cannex floor and addition of the awning, but to also keep the campus clean and well-maintained outside AND inside is greatly appreciated by all.

Our next blog will be from California as we head out this Friday to attend a nephew's wedding, help plan and participate in our daughter's wedding, and help Tim's mother in various capacities. We appreciate your prayers for safety and for God to bless these events.
Melody and Tim
