Midterms have come and gone; the students have done quite well, really!
We are enjoying a brief time house sitting for friends and have missed the random spotting of a boonie dog in Dave and Joyce's neighborhood; we have dubbed him "Sadly" since he always seems so sad. It was fun to catch a glimpse of him the other day as Joyce and I stopped by her house. He must've gotten some bones over the weekend - he almost looks happy here. Still, the head has a bit of the Eeyore droop to it, don't you think?
Now here's a real "eye-opener" for us Californians who have grown zucchini: And how many people did YOU have to pay to take yours off your hands last summer? (You should've sent it to Guam, I'm thinking! Yes, you're reading that right: $3.99 a pound for zucchini . . . and you'll notice that it's all gone! They're like gold over here! This is the root of culture shock for those of us new to Guam who have been spoiled by the availability and low cost of produce in the States!!! We try to stick with as much "local" produce as we can . . . but now and then you just have GOT to have a zucchini.
A few of our friends have asked about our local church; we attend the Evangelical Lutheran Church, along with a bunch of other believers from about 12 different denominations. Here you see our music team practicing under the direction of Pastor Jeff (far right). We have come to look forward to Thursday night rehearsals where we practice Sunday morning's music. It is a great night of worship for us! (Melody is 2nd from right w/guitar.)
My last offering to you for the week is a little tour of the flora of our campus and home; God's creativity and beauty is so apparent in the wide variety of flowers and plants here that He has made. May your week be filled with His grace and beauty; may you see His hand in everything and walk in an awareness of His blessings and beauty. Love, M&T
